At Court

What to do at Court?

Ultimately, you can plead guilty, or not guilty. We are able to advise you as to the strength of the evidence and how that ties in with your instructions and together we can decide the best way to proceed at Court.

If you wish to deny the allegation, or have a defence in law, then you may find yourself having a trial. We can help you, and if the matter is serious, we can find you a suitable barrister to present your case properly at Court.

We can help you understand the evidence and explain the implications it has on your case. Sometimes people accept the allegation, or accept parts of the allegation but not all of it. We can help you present your mitigation effectively. We hope to deal with your predicament sympathetically and help you understand how the Courts are going to view your case. We also have a lot of experience of working with people with mental health problems. It could be anxiety and depression following a difficult time, or more serious psychiatric illnesses like schizophrenia.

Whatever the case, we are able to help you understand the impact your mental health will have on proceedings. We can, if appropriate, help get psychiatric reports for the Court, or we can make the Court aware of your issues and ask that you be better helped. This might mean having you assessed for support from an intermediary so that you can get through your trial, or it could mean asking for reports to help with sentencing.

Magistrates Court

Most cases are resolved at the police station, but if your case is taken to Court, we are able to represent you at every stage of criminal proceedings. All cases that are taken to Court start at the Magistrate’s Courts and we are able to help you with almost all cases heard here, whether you are pleading guilty and wanting someone to present your mitigation sympathetically and achieve the best outcome, or wanting to challenge the prosecution and have a trial. We are able to give you advice and representation throughout proceedings.

Crown Court

The Crown Court deals with the more serious cases. We are able to provide advice and representation at the Crown Court for nearly all matters. We understand that these proceedings can be very intimidating and stressful for people that are unfamiliar with the Courts.

We have a team of experienced lawyers that are able to provide realistic and constructive advice at all stages of proceedings.

We pride ourselves on being able to make the process and the evidence understandable to our clients. A lot of the time at the Crown Court, you will need to have a barrister speak for you. We are able to instruct experienced barristers, that you will be able to work with from a number of Chambers in order to achieve the best outcome for you.

However serious the crime you are accused of, our team of experienced solicitors have a proven track record handling murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery, drug and serious sexual and assault cases. Whatever the allegation is, whatever the circumstances are, we listen and we help. We pride ourselves on being approachable and compassionate because we know that part of getting through the process is having someone to turn to who is clear, concerned and above all, fair.
